North Jackson- Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at St. James Catholic Church for Francis J. Herman who passed away early Sunday morning at his residence. Mr. Herman was born Feb.28, 1911 in Youngstown the son of Joseph and Frances (Kana) Herman and was a life long area resident . Mr. Herman retired in 1972 as Superintendent of the open hearth dept. of U.S. Steel Ohio Works after 40 years of service including work in the Metallurgical and operating departments of Ohio Works, Edgar Thomson works in Braddock Pa., Farrell Works of U.S. Steel and Sharon Steel Corp. Mr. Herman was a member of the first class 1927 of Youngstown College where he was a member of the first basketball team coached by the late Al Fairfield. He graduated from Ohio University in 1931 and later attended graduate school at Ohio State University. Mr. Herman was a member of St. James Church in North Jackson. He is survived by his wife Anna T . (Hoffman) whom he married Sept. 9, 1939. Three daughters Mary (Edward) Emmett of Philadelphia Pa., Frances (Robert) Lord of Portsmouth NH, Ellen Herman(Paul Dinkel) of Santa Barbara, CA.. One son Joseph (Jean) Herman of Astoria, OR., eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Herman was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother Stephen Herman and one sister, Theresa Herman. Friend may call at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel from 4-7PM Wednesday. Family requests material contributions take the form of donations to the donors favorite charity.
