Gary R Mcmonagle

MINERAL RIDGE-Gary R. McMonagle, age 58, formerly of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, died at the Hospice House on April 1 , 2008 following a 4 year courageous and determined battle with cancer with his wife and loving family by his side. He was born June 15, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of Floyd J. and Esther M. Keib McMonagle. Gary was a graduate of Clarion University, where he earned a BA degree in Psychology in 1973. He received his Associate Degree in Nursing Science from Youngstown State in 1976 and was a licensed Registered Nurse, having worked for many years at North Side Hospital, Robison Memorial Hospital, and St. Joseph Medical Center. He maintained an active nursing license in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He earned his EdS in Counseling from Kent State University and was dual-licensed with supervision endorsement in the State of Ohio as a Clinical Counselor and a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor III. Gary was also an Internationally Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, a Certified Criminal Justice Specialist, and was certified in biofeedback through the National Registry of Neurofeedback Providers. After completing his Doctorate in Clinical Hypnosis from the American Institute of Hypnotherapy in Irvine, California in 1995 and completing his internship with Dr. Daniel Zelling in Akron, OH; Gary was certified as a Medical Hypo analysis practitioner. He was a lecturer with Silva Mind Development, was the author of "Instant Money" and also developed and marketed a line of self-hypnosis tapes and books. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Medical Hypnoanalysts for several years and was a Diplomat with the American Psychotherapy Association. Gary was also an adjunct faculty member for Kent State University for six years. For the past 14 years, Gary owned and operated the Ohio Hypnosis Healing Center, a psychotherapy private practice, where he specialized in medical hypo analysis, neurofeedback, and EFT. Gary's true passion was the mind-body connection and he spent most of his life working in the helping professions; teaching people how to find resources within themselves for peace, joy, love, healing, forgiveness, enhancing relationships, controlling habits, eliminating phobias, and living a happier, more fulfilling life. He practiced and lived the concept of self-responsibility. His friends describe him as a teacher and mentor. He enjoyed playing and watching sporting events and was a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed weight-lifting, organic gardening, traveling, and taking cruises. Gary is survived by his parents of Pittsburgh, PA; his best friend and loving wife of 36 years Ruth (Niebauer) McMonagle, whom he met while attending Clarion University. He is survived by his sister Karen Ninness of Canonsburg, PA; his brother Keith McMonagle of Castle Shannon, PA; his mother-in-law Cecelia Niebauer; sister-in-law Betty (Mike) Zaliznock and LaVerne Perry; brothers-in-law Lloyd Ninness, Joseph (Judy) Niebauer and Paul (Joyce) Niebauer; nephews Brett Ninness, Craig Zaliznock, David Niebauer, and Chris (Tiffani) Niebauer; nieces Brittani Ninness, Michelle Herbsleb, Amanda (Shawn) Veneskey, Callie Niebauer, Casey Niebauer; 6 great nephews and nieces; and many other cousins, and by a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents William and Sophia Keib; paternal grandparents Michael and Mary Margaret McMonagle; father-in-law Calestus Niebauer; and several aunts and uncles. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11AM, with the Rev. Jay Eastman officiating, in the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield-Niles Road, Mineral Ridge, OH 44440, where friends may call from 10 AM until the hour of service. Family and friends may also gather on Friday, April 4, 2008 from 5 until 6PM in the funeral home.
