George L. Mihalik

George L. Mihalik, 88 of Warren, died Friday evening, March 18, 2016, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born April 25, 1927 in Fredericktown, Pennsylvania the son of the late Valent and Anna Kubetko Mihalik. George attended California, Pennsylvania high school. He then served as a gunners mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Colorado in the Pacific Theatre and with the Japan occupational forces. He retired from Rupublic Steel Corp., where he worked 32 years in the tandem mill. After retirement, he worked as a maintenance man at the Warner House. George was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish, St. James Church site. He was an avid golfer and bowler and loved hand quilting, making many hand made quilts for his nieces and nephews. He loved going back to visit and spend time with the family in Pennsylvania. George loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed traveling, playing cards and helping people, especially with their projects. He loved people, was very outgoing and enjoyed conversation with family and friends. George is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy I. McCormick Mihalik, whom he married March 21, 1970; one daughter, Valerie L. Mihalik of Warren; two sons, David L. (Tami) Mihalik of Lawton, Okla. and Brian L. (Pattie) Mihalik of Harrisburg, NC; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Kevin, David, Randell, Tyler, Sarah, Breona and Jillian; one brother, Albert (Fran) Mihalik of Youngstown and numerous nieces and nephews. His first wife, Patsy Sprague Mihalik preceded him in death in 1967. Four brothers, Pal, John, Paul and Robert Mihalik and three sisters, Mary Gaydosh, Anne Malik and Julia Russell also preceded in death. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Warren, with Rev. John Lody celebrating the Mass. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren and also from 10 to 10:30 a.m. prior to going to the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at St. Stephens Cemetery in Niles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity in George's name.
