George Letchworth

Dr. George Letchworth 2/2/35 - 11/5/18 Dr. George Letchworth was born on February 2, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA, to George and Beatrice (Singer) Letchworth. George earned undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Mathematics from Bucknell University and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1957, George married Anne Richardson, with whom he had 2 children, Robert and Ellen, before Annes passing in 2002. In 2003, George married Susan Kapp Jacobs, who passed away just hours before George on Monday, November 5th. In 1968 George began his career at Youngstown State University, where he served as director of the University Counseling Center and as a professor of Psychology before retiring in 1996. George was very active in the community, having served as president of the Parkview Counseling Board. George was also a member of the Mahoning County Mental Health Board and served on the Canfield Civil Service Commission. Through his service to the community and his avid pursuit of tennis, George made many lifelong friends and colleagues who supported him to the end and who have overwhelmingly reached out at the news of his passing. George is survived by his son Robert, granddaughters Brooke and Keri McCabe and great granddaughter Harlyn, all of Vancouver, WA. Brooke, Keri and Harlyn were the light of his life, and nothing made him happier than spending time with them. George was pre-deceased by his brother, Richard and his daughter Ellen McCabe. A joint memorial service for George and Susan will be held on Sunday, November 11 at 1:00 pm at Avion On the Water (2177 W. Western Reserve Rd, Canfield, OH). In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Valley and/or Huntington's Disease Society of America are appreciated.
