Gerald R.Brauer 80. Austintown- Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Gerald Brauer of 3955 Staatz Dr. who passed away Wednesday morning at his residence. He was born May 5, 1922 in Struthers a son of John and Helen (Calladine) Brauer. He was a machine operator for Hynes Industries retiring in 1984. He was a member of VFW Post 3538 in Struthers, 4:30 Club, and graduated from Struthers High School in 1940. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was also active in baseball, as a professional player before World War II and coached many years in Austintown Pony and Colt Leagues. He is survived by his wife Patricia Crann whom he married December 5, 1946; children James Brauer of Youngstown, Barbara Hurdley of Austintown, and Janet Carkido of Austintown; brother in law Arthur Crann of Canfield whom he reared as a child; sister Charlotte Gilliland of Boardman; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Jeffrey, and 2 brothers Roger and Edwin. Calling hours will be from 5-8 Friday evening at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. Material contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
