Mr. Gerlad F. Thorn, 83, formerly of Salem, died late Sunday morning, April 28th, at the Humility House Nursing Center in Austintown.
"Jerry" as he was affectionately known was born August 30, 1940 in Morgantown, WV, a son of James C. and Merle (Johnson) Thorn.
He worked as a painter for General Motors in Lordstown for 32 years, retiring in 1998. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1966-68.
Jerry married the former Ruth Ann Marteny on October 10, 1964. They shared 59 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.
He loved classic cars, especially his 1955 Chevrolet Belair. Jerry's greatest joy was his family, especially watching his grandchildren's sporting events.
Besides his wife, Jerry is survived by two sons; John E. (Kellie) Thorn, of Mineral Ridge and Rodney L. (Lisa) Thorn, of Salem. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren; Jacqlene, Julia, Jed, McKayla, Lindsey, Tyler, and Bailee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Richard Thorn; and a sister, Patricia Jones.
Jerry's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staffs at Harmony Hospice and the Humility House for all of the kind and compassionate care shown to him.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, May 5th at the Thirsty Frog banquet hall, 5423 Mahoning Ave, Suite F, Austintown, OH 44515.
