Gerold W. “Jerry” Wix, 74 of Austintown, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, December 24th at St. Elizabeth/Mercy Health Medical Center, Youngstown. Jerry, also known as “Sugar Bear” was born December 10, 1949 in Fairmont, West Virginia, a son of the late Kenneth Lee and Ellen Mae (Boyce) Wix. He was a proud U. S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. Jerry had worked at General Motors, Lordstown Plant for 35 years, retiring in 2004. He was an avid woodworker, making everything from corn hole boards to bikes, signs and toys for his grandchildren. Jerry loved riding his Harley Motorcycle and looked forward to rides to Geneva -on-the-Lake, the Finger Lakes and traveling to Daytona bike week every year. He also liked visiting Harley Davidson Shops where he collected the poker chips. He leaves his wife, Pat, whom he married in 2004. Pat and Jerry were inseparable and enjoyed riding bikes together, collecting Harley Davidson Christmas bulbs and decorating a yearly Harley Christmas tree. Pat and Jerry lived by the motto, “It’s always about the Journey.” Jerry also leaves a son, Craig Wix of Newton Falls; two daughters, Heidi (Travis) Hathaway of Hubbard, Heather (Ted) Lomax of Leavittsburg; a daughter-in-law, Donna Wix of Gustavus; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fran Haines of Cortland, Carol Holbrook of Newton Falls and his twin brother, Harold Wix of Alabama. Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a son, Lee Wix. There will be no services or calling hours per Jerry’s wishes.
