Gilbert R. Casteel

Gilbert R. Casteel, 92 Gilbert R. Casteel, 92 of Salem, formerly of Columbus and California died early Tuesday morning at Salem West Nursing Home, Salem. Gilbert was born July 16, 1926 in Columbus, a son of the late Gilbert and Ella May (Blake) Casteel. Following high school graduation he went on to serve in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane and engine mechanic. Following his discharge, Gilbert returned to Columbus and attended The Ohio State University, graduating with his degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Gilbert spent most of his working career in California working for multiple aerospace companies. He leaves his sister, Nancy Baird of Salem and one nephew, John Solomon of Lakeville, Massachusetts. There will be private graveside services in Columbus at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel. .
