Glen A. Paul, 84, formerly of Cortland, OH died April 8, 2007 at Autumn Hills Care Center from complications of pneumonia and Lewy-Body Disease. Glen was born March 18, 1923 in Warren, OH to Charles and Lena (Froman) Paul, the fifth of six children. The youngest of three older brothers, Glen learned early in life to defend himself which earned him the nickname “Spunk”. While in school, Glen delivered the Warren Tribune Chronicle by bicycle on a route that extended from North Rd. SE to East Market St. to Rt. 46 to Youngstown Rd. and back to North Rd. where he lived with his parents. He was paid 1-1/8 cents per paper which went a long way in paying for clothes and bicycle repairs. After graduating from Howland High School in 1941, he soon started to work at the McDonald Works of US Steel, a job he held until 1980 when the mill closed. In 1943 Glen was drafted into the US Army and was sent to Camp Hood in Texas for training. His battalion was deployed to Germany with the 656th Tank Destroyer Unit where they participated in the Battle of the Bulge. In 1945 he was wounded in action and taken to a hospital in Belgium. When he was ready to be sent back to his unit, it had returned to the States as the war was over and he was discharged in April of 1946. He received the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, good conduct medal and the Victory Medal. Glen was a life member of VFW Post 1090, Slovak Club Retirees, Cortland Moose Lodge, was an avid gardener and enjoyed golf and bowling. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Patricia (Huckelbury) Paul whom he married Aug.30, 1946, a daughter Phyllis A. Griffis, grandsons Neal Griffis, Brian (Lisa) Griffis, and great grandson Hunter Griffis. He also leaves a sister Charlene (Joe) Cook of Girard and a sister-in- law Mary Paul of Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Clover, and brothers Charles, Dwight, and Jack. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday April 13, 2007 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday and for 1 hour prior to the service.
