Gloria Byo

Gloria Byo, 90, of Canfield, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, surrounded by her family at her home. Gloria was born September 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Matsu and Usha (Oyadomari) Higa. Prior to retirement, Gloria worked as a seamstress at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Gloria loved to crochet, knit and sew. Her family meant everything to her, and she was a joy to everyone who was blessed to know her. Gloria is survived by her children; Lani Hartman of Canfield, Debbie (Darren) Pauly of Florida, Rick Byo of Akron, and Lorrie Shoaff, her siblings; William (Betty) Higa, Henry (Jeanette) Higa, and Joan Hamura all of Hawaii, her grandchildren; Matthew, Ryan and Sarah Byo, Christopher Hartman (and his girlfriend Kelly Wolford), Eric (Amber) Ziegler, Amanda and Kyle Ziegler, and her great-grandson Ethan Sheets. Gloria will also be missed by her son-in-law Ralph Ziegler. Besides her parents, Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Byo, whom she married May 1, 1954, and her siblings Jerry Oyadomari, Peter and Thomas Higa, Frances Shimabukuro and Martin Ige. A private service was held and Gloria was laid to rest beside her husband at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. The family asks that gifts be made as donations to Hospice of the Valley.
