H. William "Bill" MacPherson Bill MacPherson, 78, passed away peacefully at home October 24, 2018, after a brief illness. He was born September 19, 1940 in Youngstown, a son of Herbert W. MacPherson and Phyllis Ann (Marsh) MacPherson. Bill graduated from Chaney High School and was active with his class reunion committee. He participated in his classs final reunion, the 60th, in September. Bill also attended YSU. Bills fascination with cars began as a youth and remained an integral part of his life. At the age of 20 he bought the first of many new cars, a 1960 copper colored Pontiac. He shared his love for racing cars with many people. When he retired to Youngstown to take care of his parents, Bill continued with his interest in cars, opening his own dealership, Selected Specialties. There was never a car on his lot --- he enjoyed working one-on-one with people to develop a custom order for the perfectly matched car. Bill worked in management positions most of his life, applying his leadership and communication skills. He worked as a metallurgist at Youngstown Sheet and Tube. Bill also worked for GMAC and was the Executive Director of the Medical Dental Bureau of Youngstown. He lived in the South for many years where he was employed as a regional sales representative for Brainard Strapping and comptroller for DeKalb General Hospital in Atlanta. Bill was a decisive man and known for his honesty and integrity. He brought out the best in people with whom he associated. In working with people whether in community service or management, he followed an old German quote, "When we treat man as he is, we make him worse than he is; when we treat him as if he already were what he potentially could be, we make him what he should be." He served in the Air Force Reserves. In Youngstown Bill served on the Mahoning County Drug and Alcohol Abuse Board for many years and was a member of the Mens Garden Club of Youngstown where served on several committees. He is survived by his sister, Beverly J. Galla, of Poland, OH; a brother, Dr. Douglas S. MacPherson of Weirton, WV.; nieces and nephews and friends Lynn Hoffmann and Phylian. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger, and friend Marillis. Services were held in private with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
