FOWLER — Harlan Roy Fredenburg, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Fowler on August 3, 2024 surrounded by family.
Born on June 2, 1933 in Warren, Harlan was the son of Clark and Grace (Morris) Fredenburg.
He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1951.
From 1953 — 1955 he served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army with the 82d “All American” Division and attained to the rank of Corporal.
Beginning in 1949, he worked as a tool and die maker at Phoenix Tool Company, a family-owned machine shop in Warren, until his retirement in 1998 and served for many years as the Company’s President.
On April 7, 1956, Harlan married the love of his life, Betty Hunter, formerly of Niles. The couple resided in Warren until relocating to Fowler in 1970. Together they shared 53 years of marriage and 3 children: Sherry Bobrowicz, Twin Lakes, Gary Fredenburg, Avon Lake, and Eric (Diane) Fredenburg, Vienna. He loved fishing and travelling (he and his wife traveled to all 50 states) and especially camping trips in their motor home with the Holiday Ramblers RV Club.
He also enjoyed watching auto racing and was an enthusiastic fan of the Cleveland Indians / Guardians, the Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. As a youth, he was in the Boy Scouts and he later served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 5 in Warren.
Aside from his children he is survived by five granddaughters, Carla Bobrowicz, Brooklyn, New York, Loni Capan, Vienna, Erinn (Ron) Urioste, Austintown, Ilsa Fredenburg (Brendan Goforth), Columbus and Cora Fredenburg, Avon Lake; three grandsons, Christian Bobrowicz, Mogadore, Berend Fredenburg, Avon Lake, and Gerrit Fredenburg, Sheffield Lake; one step-grandson, Travis Smith (Melissa), Vienna; and five great-grandchildren.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, son-in-law, Richard Bobrowicz, brother, James Fredenburg, and sister, Carol Copeland.
According to Harlan’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and cremation will take place.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harlan’s memory to the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County at 812 Youngstown Kingsville Rd SE, Vienna, OH 44473.
The family has entrusted arrangements to the care of Lane Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren.
