Helen Mae Walker

Mecca - Helen Mae Walker, 89, passed away surrounded by her family at her home Wednesday evening, June 27, 2018. Helen was born on February 28, 1929 in Uniontown, PA, a daughter of the late Robert Ivan and T. Pauline Cole. She was a 1948 graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, PA. After high school she married the love of her life Charles H. Walker on March 26th, 1949. She was a talented homemaker and raised five children. Helen was an artist and all the world her medium. Her creative spirit allowed her to see the world through a colorful lens, and she had an unapologetic style of her own. Known to many as "The Teddy Bear Lady," Helen made many dolls and teddy bears, and even donated stuffed trauma bears to Police and Fire Departments. For many years, she was very active in the Trumbull County Homemakers Extension, where she loved sharing ideas and collaborating with other homemakers. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society, TOPS and the Mecca Community Church. Helen will be deeply missed by many, including her loving family; children, Janet (David) Bruce, Sherrie Jackson, Denise Smith -Odvar, and James Walker; grandchildren, Sharon Little, Heather (Brian) McCrimmon, Katrina (Travis) Aho, Kimberly (Robert) Keseloff, Charles John Walker II, Thomas Eugene Walker, Audrey M. Walker, Xylon J. Walker, and Amber R. Saltzmann; great-grandchildren, Amber, Dave, Christopher, Corinne, Abigail, Julian, Cole, and Catherine; and her two sisters, Loraine Turnbeaugh and Polly Cappuccio. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles H. Walker of 60 years, who passed away on February 20, 2009; her son Charles Walker Jr.; and her brothers, Duane and James Cole. Family and friends may visit on Friday June 29th, 2018 from 7-9:00PM at Lane Family Funeral Homes Shafer Winans Chapel at 164 North High Street in Cortland. Helens service, a celebration of her life, will be held at 2:00 PM at the Mecca Community Church on Sunday July 1st, 2018,. Family has requested visitors wear Helens signature color Pink or anything colorful. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley or Mecca Community Church. For those interested, a short graveside service will be held on Saturday at the Oakdale cemetery in Jefferson, OH at 1:00PM Friends and family may send their heartfelt condolences by visiting www.lanefuneralhomes.com
