Helen Thur Wanchisn of Richmond, VA, formerly of Masury, Ohio, passed away on December 24, 2019. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Peter Wanchisn, her daughter, Carol Wanchisn Kraynak, son-in-law, Ronald Kraynak, siblings Mike (Katie), John (Helen), George (Ruth), and Paul (Betty)Thur, Mary Pavlick (Jack), Margaret Mancuso (Louis), and Betty Horn (Andy). She is survived by her son, James Peter Wanchisn (Sallie) of Richmond, VA, her brother Albert Thur (Dolores, deceased) of Hermitage, PA, and her sister, Anna Gonscak (Peter, deceased) of Detroit, MI. She is also survived by a host of devoted nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was born on February 24, 1922, in Glen Campbell, PA, to the late Michael and Anna Feidelem Thur. She was one of 15 children, five of whom died in infancy. During World War II Helen worked at National Carbon in Cleveland, OH, and then at Ohio Crankshaft making crankshafts for B-29 planes.
Helen was a long time member of St. John's Orthodox Church and will be interred alongside her beloved husband in the church's cemetery in Hermitage, PA, on Friday, January 3, 2020, following an 11AM service at Lane Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, 6923 Warren Sharon Road, Brookfield, Ohio. The Reverend Father David Mastroberte will officiate. In accordance with Helen's wishes, there will be no visitation prior.
