Henry R. Schaner

Henry Robert Schaner, 87, a resident of Austintown, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family. Born June 21, 1931 in Girard, he was the son of John and Sophie (Remner) Schaner. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his Honorable Discharge, Henry worked at Swedlow Plastic and later for Loblows. He "officially" retired as a factory worker from GF Business Industries in the late 80's but Henry continued working, first at Stambaugh Thompsons and then at the Home Depot. Henry was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in North Jackson, where he also sang in the choir. He enjoyed yard work, camping, spending time with his family, following the Indians and Cavaliers, and was an avid fan of the Fitch Falcons football team. Survivors include his wife, Ann Margaret (Rowthorn) Schaner, whom he married August 21, 1954; his daughters, Christine (Jeff) Carlton of Nashville and Melinda (Bob) Knisely of Cleveland, his son, Daniel Schaner of Allentown; a sister Margaret Andello; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Fred Schaner and his sisters Sue Pope, Hilda Roskos, Mary Yane, and Mildred Sorrentino. A Memorial Service, officiated Pastor Phillip McClelland, will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church at 1:00 PM on July 9, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Henry's name.
