Homer P. McCarty, 88, of Howland passed away peacefully 5:10 PM Friday Jan. 21, 2011 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 27, 1922 in Cleveland the son of Homer P. and Helen (Seaman) McCarty Sr. He attended school in Cuyahoga Falls and Cleveland Heights before moving to the Panama Canal Zone with his family. He graduated from Christobal High School in Panama where he played football, and water polo, was president of the National Thespians and Treasurer of the senior class. After graduation from high school he was employed by the US Navy. Homer served in the US Navy during WW II and the Korean War. He received a bachelor's degree in business from Kent State University and went to work for Wean Industries as a field engineer retiring as supervisor. He traveled the world for Wean often accompanied by his wife. They made many friends during their travels. He was a member of Howland Community church where he served as a deacon, the American Legion post in Mentor, OH, Silver Trowel Masonic Lodge # 776, and the Abou Saad Shrine of Panama. He also belonged to the Cleveland Skating Club and the U.S. Power squadron. Mac enjoyed boating, golfing, and keeping in touch with his fellow Wean retirees. He also volunteered at Children's Rehabilitation Center. His beloved wife Elizabeth H. "Libby" (Hix) whom he married Nov. 21, 1964 preceded him in death May 25, 2006. He is survived by a step-daughter Sandra, a grandson Jason, and many friends. Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday Jan. 25, 2011 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. The Rev. Dr Brian Byrne will officiate. Silver Trowel Masonic lodge will conduct a memorial service at 9: 45 AM and military honors will be observed following the service at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Material contributions may be made to Children's Rehabilitation Center 885 Howland Wilson Rd.
