Irvin R. "Irv" Snowberger, 77, of Howland, died 1:00 PM Friday July 4, 2008 at St. Joseph's Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was born Nov.12, 1930 in Portage, PA the son of Cloyd and Sarah (Hazlett) Snowberger. Irv was a Trumbull County resident for most of his life and he attended Vienna Schools. As a teenager he worked delivering ice in Niles and was employed by the US Steel McDonald Works for a short time. He retired from American Welding and Manufacturing in 1993 where he worked for 30 years in quality control management. He served in the US Army on active duty during the Korean War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Irv received the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze campaign stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Bronze Star for bravery beyond the call of duty. He was discharged from his reserve obligation in 1960. He was a charter member of the Trumbull County Boat Club and was an avid water skier. He enjoyed SCUBA diving, photography, and hunting with his son Larry and his nephew Gale Gray. Irv donated blood many times to the American Red Cross and was raised in the Christian and Missionary Alliance faith. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Louise (Haggerty) Snowberger whom he married June 20, 1953, 4 children; Cynthia Perkins of Girard, Bonnie Bader of Youngstown, Larry (Wendy) Snowberger of Oswego, IL and Diane (Brian) Connelly of McDonough, GA. He also leaves 9 grandchildren Audrey (Derek) Riley, Danielle (Jason) Boyles, Greg Perkins, Kevin Snowberger, Marc Connelly, Shawn and Ryan Snowberger, Adam and Sarah Connelly, 4 great grandchildren Trevor, Aidan and Owen Riley and Destenee Boyles, 2 sisters Marian Gray of Howland, Barbara (Chris) Larsen of Aidan, NC, a sister-in-law Bernadine Snowberger of Vienna, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bill Snowberger, a brother-in-law Gus Gray, and his mother and father-in-law Ula and Lewis Haggerty. Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday July 10, 2008 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 5-8 PM Wednesday. He will be entombed in the Crown Hill Cemetery Mausoleum where military rites will be observed. Material contributions may be made to Children's Rehabilitation Center 885 Howland Wilson Rd.
