Jack Russell Houck, age 94, of Warren, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Born January 19, 1923 in Kittanning, PA., he was the son of Amos Samuel and Ethel Marie (Glenn) Houck. Jack graduated from Girard High School in 1941; he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1942 where he served as a gunner in the SBD Dive-Bomber until being honorably discharged in 1946; he received a Purple Heart. He worked for the Brainard Rivet Company until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Evansville Baptist Church and most recently attended Bazetta Baptist Church, he was a life-member of the Disabled American Veterans. He loved fishing and wood-carving. Survivors include his children: Russ (Andrea), Tom (Bonnie), and Carol (Bill) Zimmerman; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Elsie (Olin) Race, Virginia (Ken) Culp, Florence Houck, Fred (Joan) Houck, Edith (Ray) Riggleman, and Robert Houck. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lucille, of 49 years, who passed away in 1994; son Ron; brothers: Don, Dick, infant brother Bernard, and a sister Betty Griffiths. Funeral Services will be held at the Lane Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 12:00 noon with Pastor Rod Winyard officiating; friends will be received beginning at 10:00AM until the time of service. Burial will take place at Kerr Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd, Suite 270, Valley View, Ohio, 44125.
