Augusta, Georgia Mr. Jacob VanZanten entered into rest on January 10, 2004 at Kentwood Nursing Home, Augusta, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held on January 14, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, Ohio with Rev. Douglas Dayton, pastor of St. John's Episcopal Lutheran Church, Sharon, Pennsylvania. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, Pennsylvania. He was 95. Mr. VanZanten, formerly of Brookfield, Ohio & Venice, Florida, resided in Augusta, GA. He was born on September 6, 1908 in Wassenaar (a suburb of the Hague) Holland, a son to Cornelius and Elizabeth (Rosenberg) VanZanten. He immigrated to Ellis Island in April 1920. Jacob worked at Westinhous in his early years and later owned VanZanten Plumbing and Heating, Brookfield. He was a former member of the Brookfield Optimist Club, Brookfield Grange, and the Kiwania Club of Venice, FL. Survivors include: wife, Agnes Rodecker, whom he married on September 1, 1945; daughter, Mary Lou Rutherford and he husband Richard, Augusta, GA; sister, Lena Vozda, Newport Richey, FL; 2 granddaughters, Tracy Clark and her husband Mitchell, Jasper, GA, and Amy Sorrow and her husband David, Augusta, GA; 2 great-granddaughters, Allison Cox and Lauren Sorrow; 2 step-great-grandsons, Phillip and Nicholas Clark; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Paul and Henry VanZanten; and a sister, Jeanette Ferenz. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the service Wednesday, both at the Madasz Funeral Chapel.
