James A. Scott, 96, passed away at Vista Ridge on June 5, 2017. Jim was born in Scio on April 15, 1921 to John & Inez (Pfoutz) Scott. Jim served our country during WWII in the Air Force teaching chemical warfare. On January 31, 1965, Jim was united in marriage to the former Jessie Salyer who survives. Jim spent his career working as a salesman for Crown Ford retiring in 1995 after 30 years. He also spent time running the family dairy farm with his brother Lynn. He owned and operated the Scott's Motel in Newton Falls, and taught vocational agriculture in the Lima area for a while. He was an auxiliary highway patrol officer for Newton Falls as well. Jim was a baseball player and played at the semi-pro level for many years. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 482 in Scio and he was an expert cow caller, too. A man of many talents and trades he will be missed by his family. A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday June 10th at 3:00 p.m. at Lane Funeral Homes; 415 Robbins Ave. Niles, OH where the family will receive friends starting at 2:00 p.m. Besides his wife of 52 years, he is survived by his children Pamela (Butch) Mealy, Donald Zorn, Roger Zorn and Janet (Richard) Jones, his grandchildren Christopher Mealy, Jason Betras and Krista Betras as well as his brother Dr. Carl (Elizabeth) Scott and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Harold, Lynn and Kenneth Scott and his sister Lenora David.
