North Jackson- Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for James Campbell who died peacefully in his sleep Friday evening in Brairfield at the Ridge. Jim was born October 3, 1921 in Diamond, OH. the son of William Benton and Nancy (Linderman) Campbell Johnson and was a resident of North Jackson since 1938.
Jim was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.Army Air Force in the Southwest Pacific. He flew as a radioman/top turret gunner 1943-1944 in a B-25C strafer aircraft as part of the 405th Squadron, 38th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force. He was a recipient of the Army Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross. Jim retired from farming in 1965. He had also drove school bus for the Jackson Milton School System for five years, and retired from General Motors Lordstown in 1983 as a booth cleaner after 18 years employment. He attended Palmyra High School and graduated from Jackson Milton High School in 1939.
Jim was a member of the North Jackson Keenagers, served as Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias and was recognized by the North Jackson Pythias Lodge in 1996-97 as their Knight of the Year. He also served as DOKK Grand Emir, Temple #199, and was a member of American Legion Post 737 in Lake Milton.
He is survived by daughters; Penny Campbell of Howland, Bonnie (James) Pittman of North Jackson, son in law; Norman (Faye) Johnson of Lake Milton, grandsons: Norman (Cindy) Johnson Jr., Melissa (Aaron) Frank, Penny (Buck) Jennings, James (Mandi) Pittman Jr.and Amy (Shea) Sudimak. Jim is also survived by his great grandchildren; Andrew, Nathan and Corey Johnson, Nicholas, Jaymison, Greggory Frank and John Pittman, and nephew Rusty (Bonnie) Frampton. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie (Frampton) Campbell whom he married March 12, 1949 and died June 18, 1998, daughter Nancy Johnson, brother, Frank (Elizabeth) Campbell, sisters, Willa (Homer) Humberston and Sara (Robert) Weinkauf.

Family and friends may call from 4-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that Memorial contributions be made to; The Knights of Pythias Scholarship Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Chapter.
