James “Jim” Ferris passed away suddenly on Friday, December 13, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Jim, son of the late Bill and Ruth (Lord) Ferris, was born February 3, 1955 in Tillsonburg, Ontario Canada.
He graduated from Valley Heights High School in 1973.
Jim moved to Youngstown in 1976 to make a life with Cheri Leach, the love of his life. They were married for 47 years before she passed away in 2022.
Jim was the owner of Ferris Lathrop Painting and Wallpaper.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member and supporter of Delta Waterfowl, The National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, and many other hunting and fishing organizations. He loved introducing and mentoring others into hunting and fishing. He volunteered for On Target Outfitters, an organization that mentors youth in sport, life and faith. He was also often found on hunting and fishing adventures with family and friends.
Jim was loved by all that knew him. He was thought of “as family” by countless people.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his godson Albertus “Bertie” Forbush, his stepmother June (Bulmer) Ferris and a stepsister Shirley Bremner.
Left to celebrate his memory are his siblings David (Patricia) Ferris, Susan (Randy) Bird, a step-sister Lynda (Tom) Baker, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews all of Canada.
He also leaves a god daughter, Ginny Lundberg of Gilbert, Arizona, a mother-in-law, Gloria Habib of Austintown, many friends, and his travel partner, his beloved dog Ruger.
Honoring his wishes there will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Berlin Center United Methodist Church, 15611 W. Akron Canfield Rd., Berlin Center, OH.
