James G. Garvey, Sr., 73 passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 15, 2018. Jim was born in Circleville, Ohio on March 28, 1945 to James A. & Dolly (Estep) Garvey. On January 9, 2007, Jim was united in marriage to the former Joyce Root who survives. A hard worker, Jim spent most of his career working for Davey Tree Removal, He also worked for Arrowhead Trucking and Oasis Septic. Most recently he was employed with Mecca Township before his retirement. Jim was a member of the Cortland Moose Lodge. He loved fishing on Lake Erie. He was a big fan of the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers as well as Ryan Blaney and NASCAR. Jim was frequently found enjoying a cold beer and listening to the radio while tinkering in the garage. Visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday July 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday July 20th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, Cortland where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Besides his wife, Jim is survived by his children: James Garvey, Jr., Lori Matusky, Joyce Collins and Pam (Dan Sell) Garvey; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert & Ronnie Garvey and his sisters Mary Jane & Patricia Calderia.
