James L. Masters

James L. Masters, 80 of Champion Township, passed away suddenly Thursday morning November 8, 2018, in the emergency room at Trumbull Regional Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1937 in Warren, the son of the late Kenneth and Helyn Fusselman Masters. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. He then served from Sept. 1956 until Sept. 1962 in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Bennington (CVS-20) and was stationed for over two years overseas. He worked as a welder all of his working career; having worked at Copperweld Steel, ITT Grinnell and Monroe Inc. He was a well known welder in the area and worked from home and taught welding as a substitute teacher at TCTC. Jim was a member of St. Williams Church in Champion. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 122 in East Liverpool, a member of the Coachmen Street Rods antique car club and enjoyed participating in car shows, gambling at the casinos and dancing with his wife, Judy. His wife of 58 years, Joanne "Judy" Ketterer Masters, whom he married March 22, 1959 preceded him in death April 22, 2017. One daughter, Tamera Masters also preceded him in death. Surviving are one daughter, Pamela J. (Bruce D.) Hoffman of Champion; two grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Hoffman of Mentor and Amanda (Adam) Lawn of Bristolville and five great grandchildren, Leanna Overly, Nathan , Kiera and Jason Hoffman and Ella Lawn. Per Jim's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.
