Janice F. “Jan” Burr, 90, passed away Thursday evening, September 26, 2024, surrounded by her family, at Shepherd of the Valley in Girard.
Jan was born on August 6, 1934 in Andover, OH, a daughter of the late Merl and Nellie Thompson.
She was a 1952 graduate of Andover High School. After High School, she married the love of her life, Homer Burr on January 23, 1953 and began their family. She worked as a secretary for Howland High School for 27 years until she retired in 1994.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Andover until 1967 and then became an active member of Howland United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choirs since 1949.
She volunteered in various organizations including, Contact Ministry, Hospice of Northeast Ohio, Hillside Rehab Hospital, Lifepath Hospice of Florida, Lakeland Regional Medical Center, and St. Joseph Medical Center.
When she wasn’t volunteering, she loved to spend quality time with her family, to whom she was devoted.
Jan will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 71 years, Homer Burr; children, Valerie (Jim) Waibel Mullaney, Denise Potvin, Douglas (Karen) Burr, Michael Burr, and John (Anne) Burr; grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Waibel, Lindsay (Nic) Ancheta, William (Lauren Potthoff) Burr, Thompson (Alexandra) Burr, Ashley (Matthew) Whitaker, Brittany (Cameron) Drake, Mikayla Burr, and Sean Burr; great-grandchildren, Myla Ancheta, Auden Ancheta, Lincoln Whitaker, and Sawyer Whitaker; brother, Robert Thompson; nephew, Todd (Stephanie Stewart) Thompson; niece, Tonya (Keith) Skow; and great-nieces, Jennifer and Ruby Skow.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her half-brother, Danny Thompson; sisters-in-law, Naudean Burr and Mimi Thompson; and daughter-in-law, Annette Burr.
Family and friends may visit from 10-11:00AM on Saturday October 19, 2024 at Howland United Methodist Church, located at 730 Howland Wilson Rd. NE in Warren. A memorial service will follow at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Howland United Methodist Church or Home Instead at 5329 Mahoning Ave. Austintown, OH 44515, in Jan’s memory.
