Jeanette L. Hunter, 93 Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday at Canfield Presbyterian Church for Jeanette L. Hunter of Briarfield Manor, formerly of Canfield who died early Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown. Jeanette was born April 3, 1925 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Glenn and Bess (Baird) Gourley. She graduated from South High School in 1943 and had attended Muskingum College for two years. Jeanette had worked as a secretary for the athletic office at Mount Union College while her husband George was head basketball coach and assistant football coach at Mount Union. She was a remarkable athlete and was tennis coach at Canfield High School for five years. Jeanette was very competetive and had defeated Shirley Frey, who later became Wimbledon Champion. She enjoyed walking her neighborhood with her friends for many years and riding her bike. Jeanette was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, trustee and deacon. She was a member of the Canfield Women's Club, the Canfield Republican Women's Club and the Red Hat Society. She was also an avid bridge player. Her husband, George D. Hunter, whom she married September 4, 1948, died February 11, 1995. She leaves her three sons, George Hunter of Boardman, Dr. Brian Hunter of Poland and Judge Scott (Michelle) Hunter of Boardman; three granddaughters, Ashley Hunter, Emily Hunter, Katie Hunter; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Barone and Austin Barone and a great granddaughter, Hunter Mary MacDonald. Besides her parents and her husband, Jeanette was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn Gourley and Gaylord Gourley. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon at Canfield Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank the management and staff at Briarfield Manor.
