Berlin Center, Ohio-Jeffrey “Jeff” Kocanyar, 69, JoAnn Kocanyar, 67, along with their daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Adam Lubic, both 33, passed away after a tragic accident at their residence on Saturday, October 5th. The family’s beloved dogs, Kusha, Coal, and Frasier were also lost.
Jeff was born in Youngstown on August 30, 1955 to the late Peter G. and Jocelyn (Adams) Kocanyar. He was a 1973 graduate of Chaney High School and went on to work at General Motors Lordstown before retiring. JoAnn was born in Youngstown on March 6, 1957 to the late Daniel and Miyoko (Hatada) Szuhay. She was a 1975 graduate of Austintown Fitch. She worked for DeAngelo Orthodontics from which she retired and was then a long-time employee of Rulli Brothers.
Jeff and JoAnn held many interests throughout their lives. Jeff had a love of motorcycles and has been drag racing since the 70’s, while JoAnn was an avid Cleveland Sports Fan. They were married on May 12th, 1979, spending 45 blissful years together, building a life filled with memories and raising their three children; Jake, Jill, and Julie.
Jeff and JoAnn will be greatly missed by all who knew them, especially their children, Jill Kocanyar and Jake Kocanyar, JoAnn’s siblings, Jim Szuhay, Justine Szuhay, and Dan (Trish) Szuhay, and nephews DJ (Alexandra) Szuhay and Anthony Szuhay.
Jeff and JoAnn were preceded in death by their parents and Jeff’s sister, Sue Kocanyar.
A time of gathering for family and friends will be held 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Monday, October 21st, 2024 at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown.
