Jerome W. "Jerry" Varley, 78 of Champion Township, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 13, 2017, at his home. He was born April 14, 1939 in Youngstown the son of the late Thomas F. "Bud" Jr. and Anne Marie Driscoll Varley. He had been a lifetime Trumbull county resident. Jerry was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Warren and attended Youngstown College. He served in the Army in 1962 and the Army Reserves until 1968. Jerry first worked at the American Welding and Mfg. Company in Warren and retired in 1999 after 31 years service at Delphi Packard Electric, where he worked in the production of wiring harnesses. Jerry was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on all types of machines, from vacumn cleaners, to rebuilding bicycles to working on automobiles. He loved auto racing and drag racing and had worked in the pit crew. He enjoyed attending racing at Sharon Speedway, Mercer and Raceway 7 in Pierpont, Ohio. He loved classic cars and attending car shows and had owned a 1987 Corvette for many years. He loved children and meeting for coffee every morning at the Champion McDonalds with the "Gray Hairs" group of friends. Jerry is survived by his special friend, Martha L. Mansfield of Leavittsburg; his best friend, Ross Easterday of Howland; one daughter, Alicia (Chris) Gates of Texas; one son, Jon (Beth) Varley of Trenton, OH; six grandchildren; one sister, Maryanne V. (Ronald) Rizzi of Hilton Head, SC; four brothers, P. Thomas (Carol Ann) Varley of Uniontown, Patrick E. (Peggy) Varley of Hilton Head, Peter M. Varley of Cuyahoga Falls and Timothy F. (Debra) Varley of Ponte Vedra, Fla. One brother, Daniel J. "D.J." Varley preceded him in death in 2001. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Fred Keener will officiate. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren Family Mission, 361 Elm Rd. NE, Warren, OH 44483.
