Jerry W. Harmon, 82 of Canfield passed away Thursday morning, September 5th at St. Elizabeth/Mercy Health Center, Youngstown. Jerry was born July 6, 1942 in Alliance, a son of the late Ralph S. and Mary Ann (Ondreko) Harmon and was a lifelong area resident.
He graduated from Berlin Center Western Reserve High School in 1961 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany and France. Jerry worked at the former Republic Steel/LTV Steel as a boilermaker for 22 years and then for General Motors as a millright for 17 years, retiring in 2002.
He was a life member of the Ravenna VFW #1055 and the Amvets #45 of Salem. Jerry was also a 30 year member of the American Legion #177 of Canfield. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was involved with the Patriot Guard Riders, providing escorts for funerals. Jerry had many bikes over the years but his pride and joy was his 1952 Indian Chief that he restored in the early 90’s.
He will be missed by the love of his life, Janet; his son Eric (Lori) Harmon of Canfield; three brothers, Tim (Janice) Harmon of Canfield, Douglas (Kim) Harmon of Darlington, PA, and Sam Harmon of Salem. Jerry also leaves four grandchildren, Alex, Amanda, Erica, Mikey and three great grandchildren, Azalea, Finley and Charley. Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Michael Harmon and a brother, James Harmon.
In honoring, Jerry’s request, there will be no services. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Angels for Animals.
