Joan Ruth (Hayes) Smith

Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Joan Ruth Hayes Smith, of Austintown, formerly of Baltimore, MD, who passed away Thursday at her residence. Joan was born February 9, 1929 in Old Orchard Beach, Maine a daughter of the late John and Mary Pinard Hayes. Joan was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Austintown and had been a switchboard operator at the Lord Baltimore Hotel retiring in 1982. She is survived by: four children Beverly Ann Simpson Brown of Abbingdon, MD, Mary Frances Simpson Brennan of Silver Spring, MD, Joan Ruth Simpson Berry of Lake Wales, FL, and Carolyn Louise Smith-Allen of Austintown, OH; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband Michael Cresap Smith who passed away on July 10, 2004, and five siblings. Material contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Joan’s name. Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel from 4-6 PM Sunday.
