Joanne N. Speece, 88 There will be a memorial service 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23rd at Lane Family Funeral Homes, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel for Joanne N. Speece, 88 of Canfield who died Monday, March 4th at her residence. Joanne was born March 19, 1930 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Edgar M. and Mabel I. (Cotterman) Kimmel and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of Canfield Presbyterian Church. Joanne studied fine arts at Youngstown State University. She not only played the piano and the accordion, but also had a beautiful voice. She sang the Star Spangled Banner at the Olde Courthouse bell tower raising in Canfield in 1976. Joanne wrote poetry and did some painting. She enjoyed interior decorating and often helped her late husband decorating the many residential homes he built. Joanne helped plan, design and landscape her Lakeview Farm estate in 1957. She had been a 4-H advisor for several years. She loved nature and animals, especially horseback riding. Joanne was also proud of being crowned the "Queen" of the Aruba cruise ship. Her husband, William M. Speece, Sr. whom she married July 13, 1948, died September 19, 1981. She leaves her companion, Robert Vestal; two daughters, Linda (Jim) Vaughn of Berlin Center, Lana VanAuker of Canfield; her son, William M. (Robin Costarella) Speece, Jr. of Ellsworth; a brother, James (Karen) Kimmel of Boardman; five grandchildren, Heidi VanAuker of Canfield, William (Ashley Gresh) Speece, III of Canfield, Angela (Paolo) Morra of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Jessica Speece of Boston, Massachusetts. Joanne also leaves five great grandchildren, Marshall, Isabella, Aaron, Leanna, Francesca and one great-great-granddaughter, Cambria. Besides her parents and her husband, Joanne was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Simmers and Sandra Wertz. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at noon at the funeral home. The family suggests material tributes take the form of contributions to Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main Street, Canfield 44406. .
