While attending Philipsburg High School, Jack walked to Black Moshannon airport and attained his private pilot’s license before he even had a driver’s license. Immediately after graduating in 1948, he enlisted and served his country proudly for four years as a paratrooper for the Army 11th Airborne Division, stationed out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky. During the Korean conflict Jack was stationed in Japan.

Jack married Savilla M. Schaffer on September 20, 1952 in Salem, Ohio.

After his honorable discharge he relocated to Canfield where he raised his family and was a member for 70 years of Local Union #87 Plumbers & Pipefitters. He served on the executive board of Local #87 for many years and was a pension trustee during the creation of the union’s retirement plan.

Jack was of Christian faith, a mason and member of Canfield Argus Lodge and American Legion Post 177. He loved fishing for walleye, spending time with his family, and was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Savilla (Schaffer), two sons Kenneth (Suzanne) McCabe of Canfield, Ohio, Allen (Shelley) McCabe of Alexandria, Virginia, grandchildren Staci (Cameron) Kennedy of Green, Ohio, John Patrick McCabe of Butler, Pa, and Melissa Jackson of Inwood, West Virginia, and great grandchildren Ryan and Allison Kennedy and Hailey and Xander Jackson and Kyla McCabe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother that died in childhood, and grandchild Joseph McCabe.

Jack will be honored at a private military service and laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greenford, Ohio. Lane Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Jack, we ask that all who wish to participate donate to the American Legion Post 177, P.O. Box 53, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
