John R. "Jack" Newhard, 82, of Austintown, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, October 16th, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born April 8, 1942 in Youngstown, a son of John C. and Mary H. (Getsko) Newhard.
Jack was a 1960 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and worked as a mechanic for General Motors in Lordstown for 27 years, retiring in 2004, and he also worked for a time for his family business, Newhard Auto Sales in Austintown. Jack served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1967.
He married the former Barbara A. Wuckovich on July 11, 1964. They shared 60 years of marriage and many wonderful memories together. She survives him.
Jack was a car enthusiast and enjoyed restoring old cars. He also loved music and playing guitar, and he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Jack's greatest joy was his family, to whom he was very committed and dedicated. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his two children; Dr. Michele L. (Bern McNelis) Newhard, of Windsor, CO, and John M. Newhard, of Austintown. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and his beloved shorkie, Teddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard "Gary" Newhard, and a sister, Laverne Newhard.
Memorial services will be held at Noon Friday, October 25th at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, with Pastor Joel Theis officiating.
