John Peters, Jr.

FARMDALE: John "60-40" Peters, Jr., 91, passed away on March 31, 2017. John was born in Warren on July 16, 1925 to John & Pauline (Post) Peters Sr. He proudly served his country in the Navy from 1943 to 1953 during both WWII and the Korean War. He was a Petty Officer 1st Class E6 stationed on the Badoeng Strait CVE 116 as part of air group 224. After he was discharged, John was owner and operator of John Peters Wood Products retiring in 1989. He was a past commander of the VFW post 7614 in Johnston and a member of Masonic Lodge 529 in Cortland. He enjoyed woodworking and having coffee with the guys. He was known for his signature green Dickies pants and shirts and when asked how he was doing he always responded with his trademark "60-40". Visitation will be held on Saturday April 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lane Funeral Homes, Cortland Location where a funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. John was preceded in death by his first wife the former Zelma Hornbeck in March of 1989 and his second wife the former Marlys Phouts in October of 2012. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Joseph Peters. He is survived by his daughters Carol (Dale) Kohlmorgan, Cathy (Virgil) Brainard and Linda (Melvin) Yoder; his grandchildren: Brenda, Melissa, Joshua, Megan, Christopher and Johnathan; his great grandchildren Kylie, Josie, Caden, Jude, Kara and Elijah; his sisters Laura Griffin and Mary Humphry as well as many other relatives.
