John Phillip Shaulis

Howland – John Shaulis, 84, passed away Saturday morning, December 28, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. 

John was born on September 23, 1940 in Youngstown, OH a son of the late Ross O. Shaulis and Mildred E. Shaulis Shipley. 

He was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School and retired after 38 years from Packard Electric as a forklift and extruder operator. While at Packard, he was the Plant 10 SAM Mascot.

On June 6, 1964, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Susanne Komsie. 

He was an active member of Howland Community Church where he served as Deacon and dedicated his time & service to the food pantry & church with Susanne. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling and attending every event his children/grandchildren participated in. In his younger years, he played the trumpet through school and in parades. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows. 

He was known as a man of few words, but when he spoke everyone listened to his wisdom and kindness. He was known to be selfless and would help anyone he met. 

John will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Susanne E. Shaulis; daughters, Karen (Dan) Lescoezec, Denise (Rob) Wagner, and foreign exchange daughter, Ana (Rafael) Chaparro; grandchildren, Brandon (Laura) Lescoezec, Kyle (Rachel) Lescoezec, Kaleigh (Nate) Powazki, and Kara Wagner; great-grandson, Colter Powazki; and sister Mary Ellen Foder. --

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ross “Ed” Shaulis; brother-in-law, Ralph Foder; sisters-in-law, Sarina and Margie Shaulis. 

Family and friends may visit from 10AM-12:00PM on Thursday January 2, 2025 at Howland Community Church located at 198 Niles Cortland Rd SE in Warren with funeral services to follow at 12:00PM. 

Burial will take place at Kerr Cemetery in Weathersfield Township. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Howland Community Church in John’s memory.
