Jonathan Paul Culp

March 8, 1942 — January 1, 2025

Youngstown

Jonathan P. Culp, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side.

Jon was born March 8, 1942 in North Lima, Ohio, a son of the late Melvin and Elisabeth (Hoffmeister) Culp. He graduated from North Lima High School in 1960 where he developed a lifelong love for all sports. One of Jon’s greatest achievements in high school was pitching a no-hitter baseball game. Jon graduated from Youngstown State University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and a major in Accounting. While in college, Jon was a member of the Alpha Tau Gamma accounting fraternity. He worked for Delphi Packard Electric as an accountant for 32 years, retiring in 1998.

Jon was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown. He served as the treasurer for over 30 years and was a member of the church council. Jon loved to sing and was a tenor in the church choir.

Jon’s greatest love in life was spending time with his wife and family. Affectionately known as Popo, he loved to attend his children, grandchildren, and then great grandchildren’s sporting events, and was always their biggest fan. Jon enjoyed biking, golfing, and bowling, where he once rolled a perfect 300 game.

Jon is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn “Cari” (Salmon) and his four children, Mark (Laura) Hanna of Charleston, South Carolina; Michelle Reilly and Kristine Culp both of Austintown, Ohio; and Jonathan (Jennifer) Culp of Mineral Ridge, Ohio. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Joseph and Christopher Hanna of Charleston, South Carolina; Amber (Anthony) Guerrieri of Girard, Ohio; Fred (Julie) Cross of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; Tracy (Hannah) Cross of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; Alaina Reilly of Austintown, Ohio; Jonathan and Jameson Culp of Mineral Ridge, Ohio, and seven great grandchildren. Jon also leaves behind two sisters, Leah (Jack) Martin of North Lima, Ohio and Rachel Miller of Leetonia, Ohio.

Besides his parents, Melvin and Elisabeth, Jon was preceded in death by his first wife Charlotte (Fenton); his three brothers, Melvin, David and Daniel; three sisters and their husbands, Dorothea (Walter) Kyser, Barbara (Walter) Hartsock, and Ruth (Clarence) Rummel; a brother-in-law Herman Miller; a daughter Debra Hanna; and a grandchild Jacob Culp.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating Jon’s life on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S. Raccoon Road in Austintown, Ohio with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. An opportunity to visit with the family will begin at 10:00 am and the memorial service starts at 11:00 am, followed by a luncheon.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown, Ohio or to Sanctuary Hospice of Canfield, Ohio, who so lovingly cared for Jon in his last few months.
