Joseph L. Murphy

GIRARD-There will be Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Mineral Ridge Chapel for Joseph L. Murphy, 88, who passed away Saturday evening, April 6, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mr. Murphy was born December 8, 1930 in Springfield, South Carolina, a son of Charles and Dorothy Akins Murphy. Joe was a Forman with General Electric at the Niles Glass Plant for 30 plus years, retiring in 1991. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea, receiving a Purple Heart. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and boating. He also enjoyed traveling to various casinos. Joes wife of 57 years, the former Elizabeth Glazier, whom he married Oct. 15, 1953, died Nov. 26, 2010. He is survived by his children, John (Mary) Murphy of McDonald, James (Carol) Murphy of Niles, Joseph Murphy of Trenton, NJ, Elizabeth (Gary) Horton of Greenville, MI and Debbie Chirozzi; his sister, Patricia (Ted) Herrier of North Ridgeville; ten grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Gerald Murphy and his sisters, Mary Burns and Dorothy Scott. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the Service at the funeral home.
