Canfield: Joseph Minor Gill age 72 of St. Andrews Dr, in Canfield passed away Saturday morning at 3 AM at Forum Northside Medical Center. Mr. Gill was born January 27, 1930 in Steubenville, OH the son of Edward McClure and Jessie Bell (Hatfield) Gill. Joseph attended Hopedale Schools, McNeese State College, The University of Miami and Emory University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was a Korean War Veteran He also served in the Strategic Air Command until July of 1962. Upon retiring from the service, Mr. Gill entered the Insurance Industry with the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. He received numerous industry and company awards. Among those being selected “Young Man of the Year” by the General agent and Management association of the Louisiana Chapter. He entered management of the company in Texas and was appointed to General Agent in the Miami, Florida operation. In 1977, he moved back to Ohio accepting the Ohio Valley Agency for Paul Revere, with offices in Youngstown, Steubenville, and Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Gill was a member of the Canfield United Methodist Church. He was raised a Master Mason in August of 1957 at Rudolph Krause Lodge #433 in Lake Charles, Louisiana and was a member of the Argus Lodge #545 in Canfield. He was a Scottish Rite 32 degree mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. A mentor and counselor to people of all ages, Mr. Gill was a private Pilot and aviation enthusiast. He served as Captain in the Civil Air Patrol and went on many search and rescue missions while living in Louisiana. He also enjoyed antique and classic car collecting. Mr. Gill is survived by his wife Cecelia (Costantini) Gill, a daughter Angela Diane Fleming (Ronald), and two sons: Joseph Wayne Gill (Diana), and Charles William Gill (Sherri). He also leaves a sister, Virginia Gill Rensi, a brother Edward Franklin Gill and four grandchildren: Ronald Wayne Fleming Jr. (Dawn), Elizabeth Anne DeLucia (Steve), Joseph Wayne Gill and Ashley Lizabeth Gill. Also surviving are two great-grandsons: Joseph Angelo and Michael Anthony DeLucia. He was preceded in death by a daughter Vicki Lynn, and his parents. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 2 at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Canfield United Methodist Church. Friends and family may call from 5-8 PM on Monday, April 1st at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel where a Masonic Service will take place at 8 PM Memorial tributes may be sent to the Canfield United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
