Joseph Pozzuto

MECCA TOWNSHIP- Joseph Pozzuto, age 83, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. Joseph was born July 20, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Tony and Antoinette (Nigro) Pozzuto. He was a graduate of Mecca High School in 1954. Joseph was a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church, he was also the Past Governor of Moose Lodge #1012 and advanced pilgrim degree. He also devoted his time to 4-H as an advisor to the Silver Spurs 4-H Club. He retired in 1987 from Copperweld Steel as a motor inspector. He also retired from the Mecca Fire Department as a Fireman and EMT. Besides his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his sister Lily Pozzuto. Joseph is survived by his four children, James (Andrea) Pozzuto, Marie (Richard) Darocha, Mark (Wendy) Pozzuto, and Jojo (Neal) Cowfer, a sister Jane Hoza, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Friends may call 4-8PM Monday, and 10-11AM on Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St. in Cortland, Where the funeral service will begin at 11AM with Rev. Fr. Carl Kish, celebrant. Interment in All Souls Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to MVI Hospice or to St. Roberts Catholic Church.
