Josephine May Grove, 97, passed away on March 30, 2018 at Caring House Hospice Care in Torrance California. She had made her home with her daughter Pam Sullivan in Redondo Beach, California, for the past 9 years. She previously lived in Vero Beach, Florida for 28 years. Jo was born in Tokyo, Japan in January 1921 where her father worked for a steel company for 10 years. She took great interest in the Japanese culture and way of life. Her parents moved back to Cortland in 1931 during the depression. She was a 1938 graduate of Cortland High School and Youngstown Business College. She married Laurice Owen Grove in 1941 and lived the next 40 years in Cortland. After retiring in 1981 as treasurer for The Lakeview School System, she and her husband moved to Florida. She enjoyed playing cards, painting, reading and spending time with her many friends. She took great pride in the fact her ancestors came to America in 1621 and were some of the early settlers in Bazetta Twp. Jo was preceded in death by her husband Owen in 1983, her parents B.E Chamberlin and Ledah (Crooks) Chamberlin and her brother Bernard H. Chamberlin. She is survived by her son Jack (Marge) Grove of Calabash, North Carolina, daughter Pamela Sullivan of Redondo Beach, California, 3 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the nurses at Caring House for excellent end of life care. Mrs Grove was cremated and will be interned at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland.
