Julienne W. Gagliardi

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for Julienne Delfs Gagliardi, a lifetime resident of Canfield. Mrs. Gagliardi was born January 4, 1924 in Canfield, the daughter of Gilbert and Alice Beede Delfs. A graduate of Canfield High School, Julienne received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Youngstown College, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She also received a Masters Degree in American Literature from Kent State University. Mrs. Gagliardi was an English teacher at the Salem Schools, Ursuline High School, Youngstown State University where she received a Humanities Award and Boardman High School where she retired in 1995 and was once voted Teacher of the Year. She also worked in the Metallurgical Lab at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, and was a writer for WKBN radio. Julienne also provided an oral history of her work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. to the Youngstown Museum of Steel and Industry. Julienne was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, Unit # 177 and its band, the American Association of University Women, Kiwani Queens, the Canfield Historical Society, 4-H, and RSVP. She was also a Camp Fire leader and a founding member of the St. Michael’s Parish Altar Guild. Mrs. Gagliardi leaves four children: Leonard (Cathy Laine) Gagliardi of Canfield, Marina (Charles) Clicquennoi of Kent, Carl (Alice) Gagliardi of Canfield, and Cathleen Gagliardi of Austintown. She also leaves a sister Karen MacDonald of Mentor, and a brother Alan Delfs of Racine, WI. Mrs. Gagliardi also leaves eight grandchildren: Mark and Jason Wilson of Austintown, Leonard and Jessica Gagliardi of Canfield, Sara Devine of Richmond Heights, James Clicquennoi of Kent and Alexis and Danelle Gagliardi of Canfield. Julienne also leaves her long time companion Whiskers. Mrs. Gagliardi was preceded in death by her husband Leonard whom she married May 29, 1947 and passed away in 1980. . Friends may call from 4-7 PM on Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel. Contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Rescue at P.O. Box 830, Canfield, OH 44406.
