June Ann (Malacky) Bagby, age 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning. June was born on May 19th, 1941 to the late Victor and Helen (Hrees) Malacky.
June was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and received a degree in Elementary Education from Youngstown State University. It is where she met her late husband, Robert Bagby. They were married for 47 years until his passing in 2019. Robert had a good sense of humor, as did she. They laughed and fought together for 47 years.
June was a school teacher for over 30 years, who thoroughly loved her job. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Holy Trinity Orthodox Academy both tutoring and serving on the board. June was a faithful, lifelong member of St. John’s Orthodox Church who loved singing soprano in the choir. She also loved teaching Sunday School which she continued with great joy and enthusiasm through her 83rd year. She had many nieces and nephews and very much enjoyed being their “Aunt June.” Throughout her community she was also known to be called, “Baba” (grandmother) to various children she taught and knew. It always brought a smile to her face as did the children who said it.
June was a faithful Christian who practiced putting God above all else. She always took the opportunity to encourage others to do the same. She loved the Lord and the holy liturgy.
She will be greatly missed by her son Samuel R. Bagby, her daughter Mary (Shawn) Niemi, and three grandchildren Elianna, Nicholas, and John Michael Niemi. June also leaves her brother Ralph (Kathleen) Malacky. Besides her parents, June was preceded in death by her sister Ellen (Paul) Shiptenko, and will be missed by her loving niece Paula (Matthew) Hendrix and nephew Peter John Shiptenko.
Calling hours will take place from 5:30-7PM, followed by a Panakhida (Memorial Service), Friday, August 23rd at St. John Orthodox Church, 2220 Reeves Road Warren, OH.
