Canfield- Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel for Kay E. Garland, age 76 of Canfield who died late Friday evening at Northside Medical Center. Kay was born March 24, 1933 in Evansville, OH and was the son of the late Paul and Bessie (Johns) Garland. He had been a self-employed truck driver retiring in 1987. Kay had served in the U.S. Army in the 1st Army Division and was a member of Local Teamsters #377. He enjoyed building and refinishing furniture, restoring old tractors, and working in the yard. He loved being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren. Kay is survived by his wife, his high school sweetheart, Janet Heitman whom he married June 15, 1957. He leaves three children, Robert (Jeannette) Garland of Youngstown, Bruce Garland and his fiancée June of Austintown, Amy (James Sr.) Mamonis of Berlin Center, a twin brother Ray (Dorothy) Garland of Mineral Ridge and six grandchildren; Todd, Jessica and Hillary Garland and James, Joseph and Linley Mamonis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Naomi Wilson and a brother Ronald Garland. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 PM Monday. The family would like to thank Briarfield at Ashley for their kindness showed to Kay while he was in their care. The family requests that material contributions be made to the American Heart Assoc.
