Kenneth William Johnson

Austintown- Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel for Kenneth W. Johnson, age 84 of 91 S. Aldrich Rd. who died late Thursday evening at his home. Ken was born March 16, 1921 in Girard and was the son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Johnson) Anderson. He had worked for the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District for 40 years retiring as a chemist. He was a member of the Austintown Community United Church of Christ, member of the I.O.O.F. #403 where he was past Noble Gran, member of M.V.S.D. Retirees, A.A.R.P. in Canfield #3104, P.E.R.I. Inc. and a graduate of South High School. Ken was Jr. Tennis Champ of Youngstown in 1939 and was certified in water purification from Ohio State University. He had also served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Company B. 61st Medical Battalion, was present at D-Day on Normandy Beach (Omaha Red Fox) and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Four Bronze Stars. Ken leaves his wife Jean (Miller) Johnson whom he married June 19, 1943. He also leaves three children, Carol (Rick) Miskell of Pittsburgh, Robert W. (Linda) Johnson of Boardman, Sandra (Marty) Prox of Denmark, Maine, six grandchildren; Jen (D.J.) Deibel, Sean Miskell, Shannon Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Natalie Prox and Derek Prox. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents John and Marie Johnson who adopted and raised him. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 3-5 PM Sunday. The family requests that material contributions be made to the church.
