October 2, 1947 — April 16, 2018

CORTLAND Lawrence "Larry" Arnold Fantauzzi, 70, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, following a brief illness. Larry will be especially remembered for his quick wit and kindness, patience and attentiveness towards others. A quiet, humble, funny, intelligent and honest man, Larry enjoyed a long and successful career in finance and lived a peaceful life surrounded by his cherished family and a wide circle of friends. Born October 2, 1947, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, to Wilma and Lawrence Fantauzzi, Larry grew up in Boardman, with his "sis" Doris and brother David. A 1965 honors graduate of Boardman High School, Larry played varsity baseball for BHS, made music in the BHS marching band, and formed the dance band, the Fortunes, with three high school friends. Larry attended Carnegie Mellon University, earning both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in industrial management and administration. While attending Carnegie Mellon, Larry was an active member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He returned to the university many times over the years to celebrate various alumni activities, including the annual "bed races." Having been born during the World Series, Larry possessed a life-long passion for baseball and a great wealth of knowledge, both statistical and historical, about many teams and players. His favorite team was the Cleveland Indians, and he was a Mahoning Valley Scrappers season ticket holder since 1999. Baseball season was his fifth season.  Larry also loved music and encouraged others with their musical efforts. A talented musician, Larry taught himself on the piano, played several other instruments, including clarinet and saxophone, and composed music. His other intellectual interests ranged from math, science and history to religion, philosophy, astrology and mysticism. An accomplished businessman, Larry began his professional career with The Associates in South Bend, Indiana, followed by a position in the late 1970s with Palmer Accounting in Cortland. In 1985, Larry was hired at Cortland Bank. After several promotions, including to Chief Financial Officer in 1992, Larry became President of Cortland Bank in 2006. Larry retired in 2009, after 24 years of loyal service. A dedicated member of the Cortland Community, Larry served as Treasurer for the Cortland Lions Club's Street Fair for more than 30 years. A member of the Trumbull County Society of Psychic Research for more than 20 years, Larry had served as both its Treasurer and President. Additionally, Larry was an active member of St. Roberts Catholic Church. Larry will be forever missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother Wilma Fantauzzi, his beloved wife Claudia and her children: Kevin Morris, Anthony (Rachel) Morris and Michael Morris; the children of his deceased previous wife, Judith: Kelly (Deanna) McClellan, Wendy (Mike) Davis, Michael (Cindy) McClellan and Jason (Lisa) McClellan; ten grandchildren: Ava Morris, Emily Morris, Aleah McClellan, Kaitlin Coleman, Briana LeMon, Chelsea Davis, Brooklyn McClellan, Levi McClellan, A.J. McClellan and Mariah McClellan; three great-grandchildren: Naiya, Trestin and Aticka. Larry also leaves his sister, Doris (Joe) Mancini, and his brother, David (Vivian) Fantauzzi, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and good friends. Larry was preceded in death by his loving previous wife Judith and his loving father Lawrence.
