Leonard Q Brewer

Leonard Q. Brewer Sr., 84, of Niles, OH passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in St. Joseph Health Center after a brief illness. Born Sept. 18, 1925 in Knoxville, TN he was the son of the late James Homer and Ida Mae (Brewer) Brewer Lennie attended Niles schools and was a veteran of the Merchant Marine and the Army Transportation Corps serving in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the military, Lennie returned to the Niles area where he began work as an electrical engineer. He was a 60 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union No. 688 , Madison, OH. His work took him to many different locations throughout the country. Lennie worked on Unit #1, Three Mile Island, and the Air force Base in Thule, Greenland, the construction of the World Trade Center in the early 1960’s, the restoration project of the Statue of Liberty during the mid 1980’s and spent four and a half years working on the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center as well as One Police Plaza in New York City, NY. Lennie Loved NYC! He was very active in his community serving as exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge No. 295, Niles, OH, Commander and Adjutant of AMVETS Post No. 106, a 32nd degree Mason of the Old Erie Lodge No. 3, and was an active member of the Shriners until his death. For over 20 years Lennie played “Santa Claus” for several local fire departments to include McDonald and Vienna Twp. as well as for his Masonic and Elks lodges, area skilled nursing facilities, St. Joseph Health Center, other area businesses, and for private parties. In addition to being “Santa”, Lennie was also a certified Kentucky Colonel. He was an avid reader and movie buff, loved wood-working and tending to his vegetable garden. Most of all, he loved and adored his family and was extremely proud of their accomplishments. He married Arlene K. (Chilton) Brewer April 7, 1946. Together they shared 57 years of marriage before she preceded him in death in Dec. of 2003. Leonard will be dearly missed by his children Rebecca A. Brewer of Brookfield, CT and Diane K. Brewer of Danbury, CT, Leonard Q. (Denise) Brewer Jr. of Edmond, OK, Rachele A. (David Westrem) Bosley of Lexington, SC, and Ralph (Dianne) Nudo of Niles, OH, and two grandchildren, Sydney C. and Zachary R. Bosley. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4PM and 6 until 8PM at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Monday, March 22, 2010 at 11AM at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Niles City Cemetery where full military honors will be observed. The family has suggested that material contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to St. Joseph Health Center.
