Lucena Mae “Lucy” Wilcox, 76 of Cortland passed away at 11:38pm Wednesday April 14, 2010 at St Joseph Health Center. Born in Garrettsville on December 1, 1933, Lucy is the daughter of Clifford and Laverne (Briniger) Day. A lifetime area resident, Lucy was an active member and deaconess of Fowler Community Church having been involved with the church choir, Vocation Bible School and the Willing Workers. She also loved sewing and gardening, most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Lucy is most well-known in the community as one of the clerks at the Cortland Post Office where she retired after 15 years of service. She married her husband, Berdell “Jake” Wilcox by whom she is survived by on November 15, 1952. Together they shared 57 years of marriage. Also surviving Lucy are her and Jake’s four children; Carol (Kim) Sigler of Warren, Doug (Tracey) Wilcox of Massillon, Peggy (Chuck) Bruce of Burghill, and Danny Wilcox of Louisville, Kentucky; a brother Chuck (Ellen) Day of Benton, Illinois, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Funeral services will be 11am on Saturday April 17, 2010 at Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, Cortland with Rev. Joel Dickson officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday April 16, 2010 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery immediately following the service.
