Lynda C. Goldner-Markos

December 22, 1978 — January 3, 2023

Lynda Cathleen Goldner-Markos, 44 of Youngstown, may have passed away on Tuesday, January 3rd at St. Elizabeth/Mercy Health, Boardman, but she will never leave us. Funny, silly, sassy, and passionate, you couldn’t help but laugh in her presence. Hard-working, independent, and so unbelievably strong, to know her was to admire her.

Lynda was born December 22, 1978 in Youngstown, a daughter of William Stephen and Marjorie Ellen (Workman) Goldner and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1997 and attended Youngstown State University.

In 2004, mutual friends introduced Lynda to James Markos, and the two of them quickly realized that they had found their soulmate. Mill Creek Park was a special place for Lynda and Jim, so it was fitting that they purchased a home on the Westside near the park, where they could relocate wildlife that wandered into their pool and yard and enjoy regular visits from the white deer, and that they chose the park as the site of their October 9, 2009 wedding.

Lynda loved to cook and worked at several restaurants and catering businesses before joining the staff at Hollywood Gaming when it opened in 2014. There, she found a work family that she cherished and that was incredibly supportive of her, especially during her six-year fight with adenoid cystic carcinoma. She was a Level 2 Cook at the time of her passing.

Lynda also loved music, art, a good true crime documentary and animals. She and Jim rescued many cats over the years, and she cherished her time at home with Jim and their beloved huskies, Jaxon and Gypsy, and cats, Daisy and Vivian.

In addition to Jim and their pets, Lynda leaves her father, William Goldner of Austintown; her mother, Marjorie Goldner of Columbiana; her brother, William Robert (Christina) Goldner and nieces Sarah and Grace of Westerville; her sister, Cheri Lynne Goldner of Youngstown and nephew Andrew Zimmerman of Kent; in-laws James and Lynda Markos of Boardman; sister-in-law Lindsay (John) Webber and nieces Helena and Hayden of Canfield; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins and several lifelong friends whom we are honored to count as family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Donald Marion and Janice Ellen (Holt) Workman and John Robert and Margaret Helen (VanVoorhis) Goldner; uncles David Wayne Workman, John Frederick Goldner and Donald Foster; and cousin Tiffany Obradovich.

Friends may call on Monday, January 9th, from 5:00-7:00 pm or Tuesday, January 10th, from 11:00 – 11:45 am at Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel to share memories and laughs and enjoy some of Lynda's favorite music. A brief memorial service will take place Tuesday at noon. In accordance with Lynda's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Angels for Animals in memory of Lynda, 4750 W. South Range Rd., Canfield, OH 44406.
