CANFIELD - Madalyn "Mada" Hodgson Janosik, 73, passed away Friday morning August 3, 2018. Mada was born in Canfield, daughter of Dudley and Wilma Lynn McDonald. Mrs. Janosik graduated in 1963 from Canfield High School, completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1967 from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and earned her Masters of Science in Nursing in 1985 from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. After advancing her career to become Director of Nursing at Springwood Psychological Institute in Leesburg, VA, Mada returned to Canfield in 1986. She was a beloved Nursing Professor at Youngstown State University where she taught for almost 30 years before retiring. During Madas career she was highly involved in District Three Ohio Nurses Association, serving on the board of directors from 2002-2006 and then as president of the organization until 2010. Mada also served on the Mahoning County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board, the Canfield Charter Review Committee and the Canfield Income Tax Appeals Board. Mada was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan. "Go Buckeyes!" She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her devotion to her entire family and her selfless caring for many others in their time of need. She survived by her daughter, Kimberly Menning and fianc Ken Shitamoto, of San Francisco; brother Dudley and his wife Debbie McDonald of Richmond, Virginia; brother-in-law Richard Forrest of Austintown; and her beloved nieces, great nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Janosik; son, Robert Hodgson; sister, Kathleen Forrest, and parents. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Madas name to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Youngstown, OH 44514. She will be interned in the Canfield Village Cemetery and a celebration of her life is planned for family in September.
