Champion- Madonna (Donna Jean) Irwin Durst, age 92 passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Joseph Health Care Center. Donna Jean was born February 24, 1925 in Cortland to the late Charles Leroy and Mable Alexander Irwin. She enjoyed sewing, golfing, and was very gifted at quilting, earning several awards. She was a member of Champion Presbyterian Church in which she served as an Elder, Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and Church Treasurer. Donna Jean was also involved with the S.O.C. Ladies-Aid and proudly served on the Champion Board of Education as Secretary and Bookkeeper. Besides her parents, Donna Jean is preceded in death by her son Alan R. Durst; her brothers, Professor Charles G. Irwin and Dr. Glen Flecher Irwin, and sister, Lucille Simpson. She is survived by her husband, Robert Durst whom she married on January 26, 1946. They were married 72 years. She is also survived by her daughter Darlene (Edward) Vasbinder, her son Bruce (Paulette) Durst; five grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Vasbinder, Adam (Elizabeth) Vasbinder, April (Nicholas) Goshe, Tiffany Durst-Lambert, and Jesse (Amanda) Durst; nine great-grandchildren, Chloe Lambert, Lillian Goshe, Tait Goshe, Sabrina Goshe, Kami Durst, Luke Durst, Ally Durst, Wyatt Vasbinder, and Blake Vasbinder. Friends may call 5-7PM Sunday at Lane Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St. in Cortland and 10-11AM Monday. Funeral service will be 11AM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Stelle, Celebrant. Private Interment will be in Champion Cemetery.
